Memorable Moment/ Sappy Saturday #1- Our Story
In order to have a series you have to start somewhere. This is my story. I wish I was better with words so that I could make this less matter-of-fact (haha). I will do my best. I met my Husband Brent working together at an outdoor store in Estes Park, CO. The first day we had a Jet Boil rep doing a demo, so we both came into work a little early. AND we both stopped to get doughnuts at the doughnut shop before. He was earlier than me (he’s a time guy), I barely made it on time (in fact I may have been a few minutes late, doughnuts). That was my first memory of meeting Brent.
However, he worked at this store for many years before me (his aunt and uncle owned it and he worked there many summers). I frequently shopped there, and I am sure we had met before. He saw me before I saw him.
Depending on the day (and who you ask) Our first date was one of three occasions: Lunch at Nepal’s on his last day of work, A day at a music festival (which, he left me waiting to get in for half of the day, not entirely his fault as we didn’t make a plan, but he could have left the ticket at will call), Or a concert at Red Rocks. I think after 15 years together we both have decided our “first date” was the Red Rocks concert. Yonder Mountain String Band.
We got engaged on a January trip to New York City to see Neil Young at Carnage Hall. We were standing in the window of the hotel with a view of Times Square, just before we were ready to walk to Carnage Hall Brent got down on one knee and asked me to be his permanent concert partner. (I don’t remember exactly what words he used, but he was very convincing :) )
Note from the artist: I don’t know why these pieces never got painted. I think because they are my stories I was worried that color would “mess” it up. It has happened with some paintings in the past and I just didn’t have the same confidence I do now. Also, these pieces have been put somewhere safe, you know those safe places that you can’t find. So, these images are from an old phone photo, to explain the slight cream tones.
