Memorable Moment #8- Puddle Jumps and Bowling

I met my fiancé, a friend’s cousin, at a bowling alley. I was in heartbreak turmoil over someone else’s breaking my heart, and my friends told me it would help if I went bowling with them. The night we met I really didn’t want to be there, and he was sick and on a lot of medication that made him loopy. While he was trying to be silly with me, I was utterly, well, a bitch. I told him I didn’t like him and wouldn’t like him, and asked who he thought he was, messing with me? Needless to say, that night was shot.

I called his cousin and asked if he would be there the next week so I could apologize. She asked him, he said he would, and there we were in the bowling alley again. I apologized, but this time he dished out what I had given him the first time. We were on even ground.

At the end of the night in the pouring rain, we were standing in the parking lot when he asked for my number. I said I didn’t give it out. When he asked if there was anything he could do to get it, I told him if he would puddle jump with me to my car -- it had been raining all night -- I would give him my number. With brand new shoes and a brand new hoodie and hat, he faithfully puddle jumped with me all the way to my car.

The rest is history. We’ve been together for almost nine years.

A note from the Artist: 9 years + 7= 16 years. I think I am constantly in awe of people’s commitment to each other. Even in my own relationship, I know it is “easy” when you do things together, but my younger self continues to remind me that ten years is a decade. (haha)

If you would like to be a part of this series send me your story. I’d love to paint it!
